About this Event

Mind The Dog is a dog training class...with a twist.

In this course, we practice a type of mutually beneficial care and need-fulfillment I like to call "restorative dog training", which I believe has a therapeutic effect at both ends of the leash.

Participating dogs gain confidence, while learning focus around distractions, basic obedience commands, leash manners, respect for boundaries, and interdependence (vs. codependence) with their people. Simultaneously,  handlers learn best practices for managing their dogs' behavior as part of a mindfulness practice - with calm, consistent communication and leadership as primary learning goals.

The class is rooted in science-based training principles, which means we use rewards and redirection (never punishment) to elicit desirable behavior from our dogs (and ourselves).

To Bring: High-value treats that motivate your dog (I suggest freeze-dried liver) + a bait bag, for easy access to your treats; a mat for your dog to lay on during class; H2O and doggie bowl; your dog on a leash. (No shock or vibration collars, no prongs; head halters and slip leads are okay, but we prefer dogs to be on flat collars or body harnesses).

* Dogs must be 6+ months old, spayed or neutered, and current on Rabies, DHPP (distemper/adenovirus/parainfluenza/hepatitis), and Bordatella. Proof of vaccines is required.

This is a course for non-reactive dogs and their parents.

(*Dogs who show any sort of aggressive behavior toward other dogs or people in the group (e.g. baring teeth, growling, lunging, snapping, biting, barking with hackles up, etc.) will not be allowed in class, and may be asked to leave at any time without having their money refunded. You know your dog better than anyone else. This class is suitable for dogs who are somewhat shy or anxious, but if your dog has shown aggression toward any other animal, person, or object, be aware that such behavior will not be tolerated in class).
